Joyless Jokers
The first thing that will strike you about this record is the mountains of groove, then, after a few songs you start to realize there is a bit more to this band than a giant bottom end and a Lamb of God inspired attack. Once your ear embraces the keyboard frills to the music and some of the more intricate melody lines the music takes on a whole new aura. Normally I might suggest the keys be turned up in the mix, but I actually prefer it this way, asides from one or two keyboard solos the pianist normally just adds flavor to the bands massive attack and keeps things interesting, helping differentiate the group in a crowded (and often dull) modern death metal scene.
In conclusion, if your looking for a death metal album that holds true to all of the raw brutality and evil of the genre while simultaneously adding some fun new interesting bits then this is the record for you. With manic riffing and crazy solos there is a lot to love with this record. Considering the sheer diversity present in its sound and you have to ask yourself, what's not to love? I for one very much embrace this new (And deadly) Italian combo. Their future should be bright and I sincerely hope that I get to see them on some sort of European tour in support of their new record!
