Chaos Plague

Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Chaos Plague is a project formed in 2006 but the year before we already began to form the band with the right attitude. The first nucleus of the band was made up of Matteo Salvestrini (Fretless bass guitar) Davide Luraghi (Guitar) and Stefano Tarsitano (Drums). For almost 3 years we’ve kept our passion alive creating new songs and improving our technique and finally, in 2010, Simone Fontana (Guitar) and Francesco Patea (Vocals) joined the band to complete what is now known as Chaos Plague.

How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
We don’t like to create long definitions for describing our genre…Progressive Death Metal is the closest definition that we could use. It’s an elaborate kind of Music, rich of various elements, we try to take the best from what we love (From early Death Metal to the present Progressive, Flamenco, Fusion, Jazz, Hard Rock and other Metal sub-genres) and add our own stamp. It isn’t something "new” or "old”…It’s something "Chaos Plague style”. Music that represents all the complexity of humanity: we introduce very violent and technical parts, coming from Death Metal, and put it together with other more Progressive and dark parts. The result is a very complex and intricate genre, which needs to be listened to many times in order to be comprehended. There’re many bands that we listen to and get inspiration from: Obscura,
Death, Atheist, Pestilence, Control Denied and Cynic above all.

Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Because metalheads love good Music and when Music is written, played and lived with TRUE passion for art, like what we do, it’s good Music.

What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
Firstly, we released a demo with four songs (Virus), just a few copies only for local promotion, and a self-produced EP (Chaos Plague). This last one is getting very positive feedback: the reviews we read are good, with positive judgments. Its only weak point is the production. We’re planning to record a LP with  professional production in the near future.

Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Italy isn’t a good place to play Metal…and if you play Prog Death…well….it’s very difficult to reach certain level. We’ve done some concerts but, over the last year, 3 dates have been called off for different reasons (unrelated to us). Many, many, many times it’s impossible or at least very difficult for clubs to pay the bands and when you move to play Music (which is work, naturally) you have to spend your own money. So it’s difficult to play a lot in our country.

What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
We think that they would be very interested in our search for a personal sound. We try to take a lot of elements to create something really OURS. And in our opinion Metal needs this, we need new musicians with their own new voice. They should know that we’re like this!!!

What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
First of all we want to record a LP: this is the first step. We keep writing new material and improving as musicians because we want to reach a high goal and we’ve tons of determination to reach it!!

Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
We’ve an official site www.chaosplague.it and we have a Facebook page where you can buy our EP or download it for free, other merchandise will be available soon!!
